We take standard light fittings and add modifications that enhance their functionality. Everything from converting a standard fitting into emergency, sensor or dimming options; enhancing energy savings or modifying a product to reduce labour and installation time.
An emergency fitting’s battery pack is required to power the light fitting for a minimum of 3 hours. To maintain power, the light output from the emergency light fitting is reduced usually to 10% of the regular light output.
Maintained fittings operate and are controlled as normal light fittings with all the other light fittings in the area. When power fails however, the maintained emergency light fitting continues to operate at a reduced light output.
Non-maintained fittings are usually switched off, with their batteries being continuously charged and a green LED showing when charged. When power fails, non-maintained fittings switch on using the battery power supply. Non-maintained emergency fittings are not part of the general lighting but are more specific functional lighting such as emergency exit signs.
The safest, quickest escape route without obstruction should be lit to a minimum of 1 lux during an emergency. Should the open area be less than 60m2 and not part of an escape route then emergency lighting is not required. However, the exit doors for the emergency escape route must have signs or an emergency bulkhead.
An escape route should not be obstructed and lit to a minimum of 1 lux during an emergency.
Stairwells have increased hazards, therefore these areas should be lit to a minimum of 2 lux during an emergency.
Operates for a minimum of 3 hours during power failure.
Initial function and duration tests are randomly generated. This reduces the cost of manual testing.
Dali Addressable Emergency
Once a DALI command is received, fittings enter DALI mode and will perform functional and duration tests.
Selecting the proper dimmer controls was once a simple task with a few choices for your home or business lighting systems. With all the changes over recent years, selecting the proper dimmer now has many new considerations such as; type of lighting, wattage load, single/multi-location and style.
With Switch Dimming it is possible to create lighting systems that can be easily switched and dimmed at low cost. It involves using standard mains retractable switch for lighting controls. The different switching and dimming functions are performed depending on the operating status at the time and how long the switch is pressed.
A short press on the switch, switches the connected driver to turn the fitting on or off.
A long press on the switch will dim the connected driver up or down depending on its current operating status.
Analogue dimming uses a separate control wire to notify the driver that the power of the LEDs should be changed. The separated control signal is a DC (direct current) and can be adjusted from 1 up to 10 volts, the voltage level is interpreted by the driver to set the LED power.
The 1-10V method of control is a low current system (typically 1mA) meaning it can be run along relatively thin cables with little voltage drop and depending on dimmer manufacturer recommendations. This allows for up to 50 LED dimmable drivers on one wall mounted dimmer.
GRID - What is Digital Addressable Lighting Interface?
It is a testing and control system, programmed by the DALI controller/system. The fitting will enter a self-commissioning phase; DALI Units also offer status feedback reports to the system. Once the module has received a valid DALI command, the module enters DALI mode and adopts default settings for test pre-programmed.
DALI Control System
DALI is a digital communications protocol that was developed for the lighting industry. A separate control wire of BUS is used to send digital information to light fittings and allows the individual light fittings and sensors to communicate with an advanced lighting control system. Although DALI is a standard protocol beware of mixing components between manufacturers with our testing first. Along with the correct LED Driver the DALI system requires additional control equipment including DALI BUS controllers, power supplies, sensors and user interfaces.
The DLS can be connected to a 1-10v Dimming Driver, when natural light enters the DLS, a signal is sent to the dimming driver allowing the light source to decrease when there is natural light present and increase when natural light decreases. e.g. available in Disk High Bays.
Photocells are basically sensors that are controlled by natural light. During the day, the light source will be OFF, at dusk, the light source switches ON. At dawn, the light source switches OFF again.
Similar to the Microwave Sensor, the 3SD Driver + Sensor also detects motion. The advantage of the 3SD is that the unit in question will Dim to a selected output (example 10%) for a selected time before switching totally off.
All Customised Conversions modifications use top of the range components from industry leaders such as HYTRONIK, LITEPLAN & ONELUX. This offers peace of mind to our customers and industry leading warranties on our modifications.
See here step-by-step how we would convert a OYSTER 24W LED Surface Fitting (R24WLED40EU-013SD) into an energy saving 3 Step Dimming Unit.
We take a standard 24W Oyster LED Surface Fitting.
We remove the diffuser.
We remove the driver.
We add 3SD Driver.
We wire and test the product.
We then place the diffuser back onto the surface fitting. The 24W Oyster Surface Fitting is now ready for installation.
All converted luminaires are subject to rigorous test procedures and guaranteed for 12 months. All conversions meet the relevant requirements of: BS EN 60598-1 (Luminaires Part 1: General requirements and tests) and BS EN 60598.2.22 (Luminaires for emergency lighting).
We can ship direct to the end user if required. They receive a delivery note and we can track these details as proof of delivery. We also hold stock for draw down; this is a great service for a wholesaler who requires 'customised conversions' for project fittings.
